Soon after its introduction, the Maple Custom
Series quickly became the new standard for professional maple drums.
Maple offers a warm sound with full sustain and
outstanding projection. Yamaha’s original Air-Seal System shells feature select
maple wood cut in plies, positioned with staggered diagonal seams, and sealed
together with evenly distributed air pressure. This process ensures that every
drum shell is in round and of uniform thickness. It also provides the shell with
superior tone quality and durability. Floor plies in the 10-ply bass drum shell
help produce a low fundamental tone.
Yamaha’s small gold lugs consist of a
precision-machined lug nut inserted in a small springless casing. Attached to
the drum shell at its nodal point(*) by a single bolt, the shell is allowed to
vibrate freely. A special nylon insert prevents tension rods from becoming loose
during play.
